Welcome Kind Lifers!

I am absolutely stunned and humbled that Alicia Silverstone featured The Odd Couple Eats on her blog, The Kind Life! There are so many awesome vegan bloggers out there and it's a great feeling to be recognized. Thanks to everyone at The Kind Life for all the awesome work they do, they've inspired me since the minute I chose to go vegan.

Welcome to all who have come here via The Kind Life, it's great to have you! I actually haven't posted many recipes in the past few weeks, we've had some out-of-town visitors (first my lovely mother-in-law, and this week my awesome parents) so I've been taking it easy and eating out waaaay too much. Come Sunday, I will get back in that kitchen and whip up some new summer treats to share.

As always, my door is open for comments and suggestions!

XO,
Hally

  3. I am also coming over from The Kind Life. I was happy to read your blog because my boyfriend is from Texas and I am thinking of relocating there and am a little worried about cooking for him and finding Vegan friendly foods there. He is definitely an omnivore. Look forward to reading your blogs!

  4. Hi Danielle! I know how scary relocating can be -it's one thing to be vegan in a town that you know like the back of your hand, but being in a new place can throw you out of whack. NYC is a great place to be vegan, but getting used to the hustle and bustle took me a long time. I just had to remember to be patient with myself and keep things as simple as possible until I was settled.

What part of Texas would you be moving to? I would check out Yelp or http://www.happycow.net/ for some vegan-friendly restaurant ideas. As long as there is a Whole Foods or health store nearby, you'll be set for groceries. If your boyfriend is too hesitant to try vegan food, just cook stuff you love and I bet he'll want to taste it and will end up loving it!

Good luck and thanks for reading!

  5. I'm another visitor from The Kind Life. I look forward to reading more of your blog as I'm a vegetarian of 20 years who just moved in with my boyfriend who is an omnivore (practically carnivore as all he eats is meat, bread, cheese, & for fruits/"veggies" bananas & corn. Hopefully I can pick up some tips from you!

  6. Hi Hally! I found you on the kind life, too. I'm newbie to the kind life and vegan lifestyle in general, but I've never felt better in my life. It's good to know that I'm not alone in my living with meat eaters situation. Thanks for sharing with us!

For Danielle, I'm also in Texas (Fort Worth, aka "Cowtown") and I have found many resources here so far even though the beef is #1 for most around here. Austin is even better for vegans and greenies.

  7. Hello Hally! I found you on Kind Life - I just adore your blog! I look forward to start following - and I'm hoping we can share each other's suggestions about feeding our omnivore significant others! Your lentil soup looks great. :)

  8. Hi Melissa! That sounds tough, bananas and corn only, huh? LOL Well, I always try to make Johnny try at least ONE bite of veggies I cook, even if he thinks he doesn't like them. Tastebuds change over the years and if you never give something a second chance, you won't really know if you like it or not! I've changed his mind on a few things, but he's steadfast in others. Thanks for checking out my blog! ;-)

Katie - Welcome! Glad that veganism is working out for you and thanks for sharing with Danielle!

Jesse - Thanks for the message! I love having a dialogue with people about what does and doesn't work for omnivores, it's the best way to make converts out of them!
